JCRC-LI’s mission is to inform and mobilize the Long Island community to take action locally, nationally, and internationally to address community relations issues important to both the Jewish and non-Jewish communities by:
Keeping peace with our neighbors through ongoing and effective intergroup relations and continuing our deep commitment to promote mutual respect and foster understanding.
Promoting a strong relationship between the United States and Israel by creating opportunities for the diverse communities across Long Island to appreciate Israel as a Jewish, free, and democratic state.
Actively pursuing and advocating for Jewish community interests while simultaneously addressing issues of universal concern.
Long Island is home to one of the largest concentration of Jews outside of Israel. Just as the Long Island area itself, the Jewish community is a rich and diverse blend of cultures. Creating a unified voice from this eclectic mix is a vital and formidable task. By building bridges within the Jewish community and beyond, JCRC-LI helps to unite and strengthen the greater community. We strive to achieve this mission through core values and a focus on four areas:
Building Relationships: JCRC-LI builds sustainable relationships between the Jewish community and the diverse communities, faith-based organizations, and governmental agencies across Long Island.
Protecting: JCRC-LI protects, strengthens, and ensures the continuity and vitality of the diverse suburban Jewish community.
Solving Problems: JCRC-LI’s dedicated professionals and board members apply their education, collective experience, and relationships to solve problems effectively.
Appreciating Diversity: JCRC-LI is inclusive and values all facets of Jewish life as well as other traditions, cultures, and religions. We strive for cultural competency and fairness, and use diversity as a constructive and practical force for enhancing life on Long Island.
Foster positive and meaningful intergroup relationships across ethnic, religious, and cultural lines.
Serve as a resource for information and advocacy about Israel and international affairs to the Jewish and non-Jewish communities of Long Island.
Maintain an on-going dialogue between the Jewish community and governmental offices at the local, state, and federal levels.
Serve as the umbrella for Jewish institutions across Long Island.
